Friday and Saturday was my and my Dad's birthday, respectively. That's right, I've been around for 34 years now...and it's been a heck of a good time.
When I got home from work on Friday I was greeted by this...
Then Doug walked in with a the most beautiful bouquet of creamy-peach colored roses
and all of the ingredients to cook me dinner. I do love to cook but I have to admit, it was nice just sitting at the table and chatting while he took care of everything.
While our meal was simmering, together, we whipped up a batch of these ridiculously decedent brownies.
Did I mention they were decedent? Seriously, heavenly...amazing...thick and fudgy and not overly sweet. They were just right. My mouth is starting to water a little just looking at the picture.
We ate and talked and snuggled with Sebastian and watched DVRed TV shows until we fell asleep.
Then, Saturday morning while Doug was working I ran all over town hunting for raw macadamia nuts.
You're probably wondering why I needed raw macadamia nuts so badly. Let me show you...
Mmmmm, Maple-Carmel-Macadamia Nut Blondies from Vegan with a Vengeance. I knew as soon as I read the name my dad would love these. After striking out at three different "gourmet" grocery stores I ended up getting unsalted dry roasted macadamia nuts and they worked just fine. Better than fine really, it was pretty dang delicious. And yes, my dad did love it (he told me over and over and over).
So, after making the blondies I packed up all sorts of ingredients and headed to my folks house to fix a fabulous birthday dinner for my dad. I made this recipe for vegan Shepard's Pie a few weeks ago and it was one of those dishes that was just plain good. Doug and I both couldn't stop raving about it so it was an obvious choice for papa's birthday. He loved it too.
After dinner and before dessert, my parents gave me a little silver bag to open. Inside was this...
Those are champagne diamonds and they're super sparkly. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't take a photo that showed the sparkles. Just take my word for it. It's lovely.
And finally, while I don't have this yet...
I know it's coming. J ordered it from clayflower22 and slipped a picture in my card promising it is on it's way. I'm oh so excited about that. This little cutie has been on my favorites list for ages.
That's that. Another great year under my belt and a new one underway.
